Hi Andy. Quick question on mechanically stripping of aluminum. I have some fine spots that may be better to strip with some type of mechanical means (sandpaper wheels or etc) rather than paint stripper. Is there some kind of mechanical way to remove paint that won’t damage the aluminum underneath or tear off a rivet head?

    Thanks

    Harold,

You might consider a scotchbrite Roloc wheel for an angle die grinder if it’s a small spot.  It can remove some metal if you are careless, but it’s not very aggressive, so it’s fine if you are careful.  There are different grits as well.  Red is more aggressive than grey.  You should be able to find them at a local auto parts type of store.

Thanks Andy. I’ll give it a try. Have a great weekend.
